How do you think social media will change in the future? What other trends would you add to the mix? Are they any specific technologies that you think will gain popularity or emerge?
"The future of social media... is that the social graph becomes so ubiquitous in everything we do that we stop using the term 'social media'. Just about everything is more interesting when you start to realize how your friends are connected to it, which famous people have been here or which ones are going to be here in the future. Also who’s doing what like what are they watching / listening or playing.
Another thing that social media would be in the future is basically tv / new, more people are posting tv shows and videos on the wall so in case you missed it last night you can now watch it. The news I think will be very big because its fast to get new through social media because its instant you don’t have to wait for news trucks to get there or anything you just post it straight from your phone. Soon social media will be taking over every interactive thing, soon we could stay in our house the whole day and meet and date people online, I think that is going to be a very bad thing because people will start losing interactive skills when meeting a new person out in public.

Social media trends:
- Privacy expectations will change
- Complete decentralization of social networks
- Our interactive with search engines will be different
- Rise of the content aggregators
- Social media augmented reality
- Influencer marketing will be redefined
- Ratings everywhere
- Social media agents
- Riding the wave aka google
- Thinking beyond
- Social media everything and the return of digital media
Cell phones and tablets will be playing a big part of social media because the younger generations keep on getting their cell phones younger every year and soon everyone 10+ will have a cell phone or something to use social media and posting stuff about what they are doing.
Interesting how you think that people will spend all day in their homes meeting and dating people through the internet. Add that with the change in interactions with search engines, and it sounds like Google could be everyone's best friend that they can talk to, and do different things with depending on their personality. That sounds wicked, you definitely should have said that. Nice post.
ReplyDeleteI can understand why you would think that social media will take over basically all interactions with people. I agree that it is not a good thing because interactive skills are lost. I actually feel that this is already a emerging problem. More and more people are staying indoors instead of going outside to play with friends. Why do most prefer this?
ReplyDeleteYou had some interesting input on this topic. I agree that people will start to devalue seeing people face to face. As you mentioned people would start meeting and dating people online, but that has already started to happen. According to online sources roughly 30% of people meet their spouse online. Online dating sites are increasing in popularity and soon that 30% will be even higher. In the future everything about how we judge social media will be different. Facebook, when it first came out, was popular just among the college/university scene. Within just a short while people of all ages started using the site. I think that it is crazy that kids in elementary school are jumping on the social media bandwagon too. Cell phones and other technological devices have made it even easier to access these sites. Cell phones aren't just for calling people anymore. Nowadays you see children of all ages talking on their smartphones and playing with their tablet computers. It is hard to believe that just a few short years ago nobody other than the average businessperson had a smartphone, now young kids are using the devices. I like how you made reference to the changing demographic at the end of your post because it is true, people are growing dependent on their smartphones and tablets to give them the latest social media news. In the future this will continue to be an issue because social media is everywhere. Social media has changed our lives and it will continue to change our lives for a long time.
