Blog #2

Q:  Social media has allowed everyday citizens to become authors, editors, and publishers of news and information. Do you believe that social media has increased the quality of news and information or decreased it?
A: I believe that social media has increased the quality of news and information these days, because with new tech. it’s so easy to get onto the internet using phones, ipads, laptops, now people post news and information on blogs or facebook and twitter. On facebook you can subscribe to like a CP24 page on facebook and every time they have breaking news you will see news feed of that instantly. Same as on twitter you can follow famous people and see what they are up to all the time, because most famous people twit about what they’re doing and some twit very often so you can find out information about the person very easily.
I think people find out more news and information about things from the internet by people publishing stuff because most people don’t have time and it on a chair in front of their tv and watch the news and wait through all the commercials just to get to the part of the news that they need. So they can just go online to find it in a matter of seconds.
I do really like the idea of people sharing their ideas and inputting there journalistic facts and information, towards social media (facebook, twitter). The only thing that I dislike about this is that people can put false information. I do get lots of my news from the internet like I’m very into hockey so I constantly go on nhl.com to find out what’s happening and if I miss a game you can get all the stats from it.
So, to answer this question that we got in one sentence is, yes I do think that social media has increased the quality of news and information.
