How do you think social media will change in the future? What other trends would you add to the mix? Are they any specific technologies that you think will gain popularity or emerge?

"The future of social media... is that the social graph becomes so ubiquitous in everything we do that we stop using the term 'social media'. Just about everything is more interesting when you start to realize how your friends are connected to it, which famous people have been here or which ones are going to be here in the future. Also who’s doing what like what are they watching / listening or playing.
Another thing that social media would be in the future is basically tv / new, more people are posting tv shows and videos on the wall so in case you missed it last night you can now watch it. The news I think will be very big because its fast to get new through social media because its instant you don’t have to wait for news trucks to get there or anything you just post it straight from your phone. Soon social media will be taking over every interactive thing, soon we could stay in our house the whole day and meet and date people online, I think that is going to be a very bad thing because people will start losing interactive skills when meeting a new person out in public.
Social media trends:
-          Privacy expectations will change
-          Complete decentralization of social networks
-          Our interactive with search engines will be different
-          Rise of the content aggregators
-          Social media augmented reality
-          Influencer marketing will be redefined
-          Ratings everywhere
-          Social media agents
-          Riding the wave aka google
-          Thinking beyond
-          Social media everything and the return of digital media
Cell phones and tablets will be playing a big part of social media because the younger generations keep on getting their cell phones younger every year and soon everyone 10+ will have a cell phone or something to use social media and posting stuff about what they are doing.

Do you think that social media has the potential to bring about real social change?

According to Malcom Gladwell, a well-known author in the area of social media, social media are built around weak ties and real social change can never come from loose networks of people that do not know each other. Do you think that social media has the potential to bring about real social change?
Yes, it does in my opinion. I think it does because you can meet a lot of new people this way say you’re going on vacation and you want someone to hang out with / or show you around, on social media website you can meet a person that will do that and plus you can meet people that will also do activity’s with you. And we all know that social media websites can bring your family closer together sharing the information about what you’re doing or taking pictures.
Facebook... What to say about Facebook. Facebook has done some big stuff with social changes, now you don’t have to use the phone at all to contact people you can have private messages, you can also video chat with them too and share photos between both of you. Another example when hurricane Katrina wrecked everyone’s house you could make a Facebook group that would let you donate to the people that got everything taken away from them
One example is that KONY thing, 2 weeks ago if you said kony no one would know what you’re talking about but it’s just blew up all over Facebook everyone had it on their walls posting videos etc. So that is one huge change that social media has made
To sum everything up Maclom Galdwell has a great point, Social media does have the effects to bring changes to the world, But it does take lots of time so if you’re looking to make a change though social media be prepared to be spending lots of hours on it . Social media will only get bigger in the world when it comes to change I believe

Q:  Social media has allowed everyday citizens to become authors, editors, and publishers of news and information. Do you believe that social media has increased the quality of news and information or decreased it?
A: I believe that social media has increased the quality of news and information these days, because with new tech. it’s so easy to get onto the internet using phones, ipads, laptops, now people post news and information on blogs or facebook and twitter. On facebook you can subscribe to like a CP24 page on facebook and every time they have breaking news you will see news feed of that instantly. Same as on twitter you can follow famous people and see what they are up to all the time, because most famous people twit about what they’re doing and some twit very often so you can find out information about the person very easily.
I think people find out more news and information about things from the internet by people publishing stuff because most people don’t have time and it on a chair in front of their tv and watch the news and wait through all the commercials just to get to the part of the news that they need. So they can just go online to find it in a matter of seconds.
I do really like the idea of people sharing their ideas and inputting there journalistic facts and information, towards social media (facebook, twitter). The only thing that I dislike about this is that people can put false information. I do get lots of my news from the internet like I’m very into hockey so I constantly go on nhl.com to find out what’s happening and if I miss a game you can get all the stats from it.
So, to answer this question that we got in one sentence is, yes I do think that social media has increased the quality of news and information.

Assignment #1

Twitter. Facebook. Myspace are some examples of social media, and I bet as soon as you hear these words, you can add at least another three sites to that list off the top of your head. But you ask, what is social media? Social media is an umbrella term that defines the various activities social interaction, and the construction of status, words, and pictures. This action lets you share your stores, pictures and comment on your friend’s stories and pictures also.
I don’t think this is a fads I think this is a big shift that will only continue to get bigger each day. We are starting to rely on this a lot, even business are starting to use this to promote their stuff that there selling or when a store is having a sale. But I think this could be a very bad thing in the future also because people are going to come very additive to this kind of social, instead of face to face and getting out in the world, and this would mean that people will probably come more unfit because you’re going to be able to do everything from your own house so you won’t be getting any exercise.
Technology keeps on growing each day, now they have a phone out on the market that has a Facebook button so you can instantly post stuff to Facebook by only touching one button. The cell phone market is probably going to start putting this on most of the phones now because camera/ video camera have it now, so it’s going to a mandatory thing to have on your device now. Facebook also made a market place app too, so now you can sell/ buy stuff right from Facebook.
